Top Ten Disadvantages

of Creating a Business from the Level of Personality

#10. Compromise

From a personality level, operating a business seems to require a great deal of compromise: save or spend, have time or have money, focus on work or focus on family, do what I feel like doing or do what I should be doing. On a personality level we are so convinced of the legitimacy of compromise that we simply don’t question it and then we (unconsciously) tie ourselves up in knots.

Your Soul has a very different perspective. Where your personality sees only obstacles and opposites, your soul sees opportunities and the possibility of unorthodox alternatives. Even something that appears to be an impossible, “no-win” situation to the personality takes a dramatic turn when considered from the perspective of the Soul.

#9. Rollercoaster

The personality is trapped in a world of polarity: craving what it considers “good” and fighting against what it considers “bad.”  However, due to the laws of attraction and repulsion, all seeming “opposites” (such as: good / bad, pain / pleasure, loss / gain, power / powerlessness) are inextricably linked.  Therefore, the more you try to cling to one end of a polarity, the more magnetic you’ll be to the other.

It is this dance of attraction and repulsion that creates our “rollercoaster” experiences of highs and lows around: money, time, approval and success.  Without a clear understanding of the forces at work we unconsciously create the very experiences we dread: seemingly ideal opportunities turn into nightmares, things that we love become things that we hate and the very experiences that we yearn for arrive, accompanied by unanticipated costs.

Your Soul is not a fan of rollercoasters or “drama” and will direct you to rise above “duality” by guiding you towards higher order states (such as: acceptance, balance, clarity, compassion, faith, grace and gratitude…to name a few).  A Soul-Aligned journey is one in which conflicts are easily resolved, ups and downs are evened out and you find yourself moving through the day in a state of peace, balance and flow.

#8. What we resist, persists

As any serious student of the “law of attraction” can explain, the corollary to the notion that “what we focus on expands” is the idea that “what we resist, persists.”  Simply stated: the more that we push against anything (time, the economy, debt and/or other people) the more these forces become entrenched in our lives.

When you align with the energy of your Soul there is no need to “push against” anything.  When you are deeply anchored in a position of trust you’ll find yourself focusing on what you do want without creating a matching spin towards what you don’t want.  (And, as you’ll see illustrated on page 13, this is a true game-changer).

#7. Scattered energy

If you’re like most people, there are hundreds of things on your “to do” list – and you’re not making much headway with them.  Lack of clarity, multitasking, and trying to make too many other people happy scatters our precious life-force energy.  Even when we have a general idea of what needs to be done, we are not likely to implement anything in the most effective way. When our energy is scattered, the simplest tasks become complicated, take too long and require too much effort.

Your Soul knows that when your energy is “aligned” (which happens when your thoughts, words, emotions and actions are all focused and congruent) you will find yourself accomplishing the most incredible things in an elegant way – thereby creating maximum return for minimal effort.

#6. Dependent on action

Does this voice seem familiar to you?  “You’re behind.”  “That’s not good enough.” “You blew it.”  That “inner critic” voice is the voice of your personality, which is perpetually focused on fault-finding, making demands and waving an “impossible-to-complete-to-do-list” in front of you. It teases you with the (false) assertion that, if you’d just work a little harder, you’d finally get the results that you’re looking for.

Your Soul knows that success is not a direct reflection of what you “do.” While action is essential – quantum leaps become commonplace when you commit to taking action only when you are “inspired.”  As Dr. David Hawkins (author of Power vs. Force) attests, "To be a success it is necessary to embrace and operate from the principles that produce success, not just imitate the actions of successful people. To really do what they do, it is necessary to be like they are.”

#5. Focusing on the goal versus experiencing fulfillment in the process

The typical business owner approaches each new day feeling pressure to “control” outcomes and to “make” their business work.  I can’t tell you how many conversations I’ve had with business owners who describe the ultimate success that they desire as: “inspired and flowing with lots of time off and plenty of vacation days. “ Then, when I ask them to describe the way they currently operate in their business, they recount the exact opposite.

If you understand the law of attraction you know that “you can’t have a happy ending to an unhappy journey.”  Pressure, strain and anxiety in your business today can only lead to pressure, strain and anxiety in the future. But your personality will stand firm on the message that, unless you are suffering and pushing yourself to the limit, success will always elude you.  By following its lead you relinquish your happiness today and hinder your happiness in the future.

Your Soul knows that the most effective path to a joy-filled tomorrow is to fill yourself with joy today.  The supreme gift of this approach is that you get to enjoy the life that you’re living while you magnetize an even happier future.

#4. Self-sacrificing to get ahead

Your personality is very invested in the idea of “no pain, no gain” which is why, when following its dictates, you will unconsciously set yourself up for massive energy drains.  When you believe that sacrifice is a noble pursuit, everyone loses.

Your Soul has a very different perspective – one that is rooted in Self-Love.  Your Soul is clear that every time you sacrifice yourself you set a negative energy force into motion. Therefore, sacrifice of any kind (by anyone) is ill advised.

#3. Every person for him/herself

Unbalanced “win-lose” transactions are the norm in the world of personality.  With a worldview locked in scarcity, competition for scarce resources is the name of the game.  All of the recent corporate and banking scandals are rooted in this illusion.

Your Soul has a very different perspective – and win-win-win is a major objective. Be clear that you can operate your business in such a way that everyone feels he/she is getting the best end of the bargain and everyone concludes each transaction feeling expanded as a result.

#2. Never enough

When you buy into your personality’s story of “never enough” it will pervade every aspect of your life.  You will never “have” enough, you will never “do” enough and, most destructive of all, you will never “be” enough.  Most people spend their entire lives trying to compensate for a deep internal sense that they are not “good enough” and one’s business will reflect this in a multitude of ways.  You may discount your services, create unbalanced exchanges, fear being “visible” or self-sabotage yourself so that, unconsciously, you continue to reinforce your sense that you are not good enough.

Your Soul knows that you are “enough” – and will happily spend eternity reminding you of that fact!  Over time you’ll accept the truth and then you’ll spread the word.

#1. Not having impact you want to have

The number one cost of allowing your personality to run your business is that you will never be able to make the full impact that you came here to make while you are restricted by the false stories, limiting beliefs and ceaseless anxiety of your personality.  No matter how many hours you put it you will be held back from achieving the true potential of your business.

Your Soul wants you to consider a different approach to business…one that will enable you to leverage the true potential of your work: personally, financially, emotionally and spiritually.  And it wants to provide you with a powerful system that will enable you to do just that.
